Privacy Policy

The short version
Lai·Liao doesn't have accounts, doesn't have a server, and doesn't collect anything beyond what's described below. Your saved stops, commutes, and search history live only on your device. Your location is used on-device to sort nearby stops and is never uploaded anywhere. The only outside party that sees anything is Google, through the ads that keep the app free and the aggregate usage analytics described below.
What the app collects
- Location. With your permission, Lai·Liao reads your device's GPS position to sort bus stops by distance and power the Nearby tab. This happens entirely on-device against a locally cached stop directory — your coordinates are never sent to Lai·Liao (there is no Lai·Liao server to send them to) and are not included in calls to LTA DataMall, which are made by stop code or service number only. You can deny or revoke location access at any time in your device settings; the app falls back to search-by-code/name.
- Data you save. Saved stops, pinned AM/PM commutes, recent searches, and whether you've completed onboarding are stored locally using on-device storage (AsyncStorage). None of it is transmitted, backed up to a Lai·Liao server, or visible to us — because we never receive it.
- Notifications. "Alert me" reminders are scheduled locally on your device. No push notification service or server is involved.
- Advertising identifiers. Lai·Liao shows ads via Google AdMob, which may use your device's advertising ID (IDFA on iOS, AAID on Android) to personalize ads. On iOS you'll see Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, which you can decline. On both platforms you can reset or limit ad personalization in your device's system settings. Google's use of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Usage analytics. Lai·Liao uses Firebase Analytics (Google) to understand which screens and features get used in aggregate — screen views and basic device/app info (OS version, app version, country/region, install source). This is tied to an app-instance identifier, not to you personally, and there's no account for it to be linked to. See Firebase's privacy & security page.
What the app does not do
- No account, login, or sign-up of any kind.
- No Lai·Liao servers or databases — there's nowhere for your personal data to be stored outside your device.
- No sale of data, because none is collected to sell.
- No tracking of you across other apps or websites by us.
Third parties
- LTA DataMall — Singapore's Land Transport Authority provides the live bus and train data. Requests are made by stop code, service number, or route — never with your identity or location.
- Google AdMob — serves the ads that keep Lai·Liao free. See "Advertising identifiers" above and Google's own privacy policy for details on their data practices.
- Google Firebase Analytics — provides the aggregate usage analytics described above.
This website
lailiao.app uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic — pages viewed, referring sites, rough device/location category. This is standard web analytics, is not linked to any data collected inside the app, and doesn't identify you individually. You can opt out using your browser's Do Not Track setting or an analytics-blocking extension.
Children
Lai·Liao is a general-audience transit utility, not directed at children, and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone — children included, since no personal information is collected from any user.
Changes to this policy
If what the app collects changes, this page will change with it, and the "last updated" date above will move. Material changes (for example, introducing an account or a backend) will also be called out in the app's release notes.
